(Spirit Lake)– Whether or not the Spirit Lake school board will make another attempt at getting a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy and Public Education Recreation Levy passed remains uncertain.
While the board briefly discussed the levies Monday evening, no action was taken on whether to take the issues to the voters.
Superintendent David Smith says the levies could be used to fund projects dealing with technology, geo thermal heating and cooling systems in more of the district’s buildings and a renovation of the track and restrooms at the High School football field.
Smith added staff is still putting together cost estimates for the various projects. The levies will be discussed further at upcoming meetings.
The board also briefly discussed but took no action on a proposal to offer early retirement incentives. That issue will also be brought back to upcoming meetings.
In other business, Spirit Lake will NOT be represented at this year’s Iowa Association of School Boards convention in Des Moines. Citing the cost and need to trim expenses, the board voted unanimously not to go to this year’s convention.
