(Spirit Lake)– Another reminder of smome big changes being made to the city of Spirit Lake’s green waste disposal program.
Public Works Director Dwight Dohlman says effective immediately, residents can no longer drop off green waste at the city’s Public Works facility. He says they were concerned over the increasing potential for accidents there.
Instead, Dohlman says residents will be able to drop off yard waste at the old city dump just east of Orleans beginning March 16th.
In addition, Dohlman says residents will still be able to drop off items at the curb for pick up by city crews every Friday. The yard waste must be placed in brown “Kraft” bags available at many local retailers. Crews will no longer be picking up the orange bags that were used in the past for green waste. For those that still have orange bags left, Dohlman says you may still use them for garbage. The curbside service on Fridays is available right now.
While the drop off site will be free to Spirit Lake residents, there will be a charge of 200-dollars a year to contractors.
Anyone with any questions should contact Spirit Lake city hall.
