(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Partners In Education, or PIE group, has utilized proceeds from the sales of a full-value certificate or shopping card…known as SCRIP…to purchase needed equipment recently.
Earlier this spring PIE members approved $5,200 for the purchase of four “SMART” boards at the elementary school. The equipment allows teachers to project classroom lessons and have students interact with the computer using a special ‘pen’. The technology is now available in all transitional kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade classrooms at Spirit Lake Elementary. Earlier this month, SCRIP proceeds were used to purchase four balance scales and supplies for a unit on rockets for the middle school science programs.
Last year, $2000 in SCRIP funds were used to purchase 100 e-books for the elementary and middle school media centers and a projector and screen was purchased for the middle school gym.
SCRIP certificates may be purchased at the Spirit Lake Elementary School lobby Friday mornings between 7:45 and 9:00 a.m. or through the school’s website.
