SL Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Alleged Assault

(Spirit Lake)– An alleged assault late last (Monday) night at a Spirit Lake residence has landed a Spirit Lake man in jail on numerous charges, including attempted murder.

The Spirit Lake Police Department says it stemms from a 911 call the Dickinson County Communications Center received around 11:00 p.m. of an assault occurring at 2321 Quail Run Avenue in Spirit Lake.

Upon arriving police and emergency personnel discovered a female had been assaulted with a knife and had serious injuries. The victim was taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare and was transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital.

Upon investigating, police arrested 21-year-old Jeffrey Wittler of Spirit Lake. He was charged with attempt to commit murder…a class “B” felony; willful injury…a class “C” felony; assault while participating in a class “C” felony; going armed with intent…a class “D” felony; domestic abuse assault…an aggravated misdemeanor; and interference with official acts…a simple misdemeanor.

Wittler was booked into the Dickinson county jail.

The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted on the scene by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance.

Police say the incident remains under investigation.
