(Spirit Lake)– A weekend house fire in Spirit Lake sent one person to the hospital.
Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news firefighters were called Saturday evening to a residence on Jackson Avenue…(click here for comment.) “We got paged out just shortly before 6:30 to a report of an electrical fire in a home at 1310 Jackson Avenue. Upon arriving we had smoke in the garage and we investigated the home and found out the cause of the fire was a problem in the furnace. We had the power company pull the socket and found out that’s where the problem actually originated was in the furnace.”
Kollasch says one person was in the home at the time…(click here for comment.) “I have no idea how or why he got up, but he woke up from sleeping and called 911. I don’t know how he got out of the house, but when we got there he was in his vehicle outside the house.” Any injuries at all or…? “He was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.”
Kollasch says it’s fortunate the situation was caught early, otherwise he says it could have been much worse…(click here for comment.) “No damage at all to the house. We pretty much ventilated the house to figure out what was going on.”
Firefighters were on the scene Saturday evening about an hour and-a-half.
They were assisted by the Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance and paramedics and the Spirit Lake Police Department.
