SL Firefighters Battle Brush, Shed Fires

November 22, 2014

(Orleans)– A couple of fires Wednesday afternoon in Orleans kept the Spirit Lake Fire Department on the run.

Fire Chief David Kollasch says the first call came in around 2:30 p.m. when firefighters were summoned to to a brush fire at 13644 240th Avenue. Firefighters were on the scene about a half hour.

Kollasch says they thought they had the fire completely extinguished. But firefighters were called to a neighboring residence at 13650 240th Avenue about an hour later. Kollasch says it turns out some embers from the earlier fire got into a pile of leaves next to a storage shed, starting some siding on fire. He says firefighters were able to quickly extinguish it, containing damage to the exterior of the shed.

Spirit Lake firefighters were on the scene about 45 minutes.

No injuries were reported.
