(Washington, D.C.)– A couple of area fire departments have been awarded sizable grants through a federal program.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department will receive 60,477-dollars and the Primghar Fire Department will get 59,451-dollars.
The funding is through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
A total of slightly more than 304-thousand dollars was awarded to fire departments throughout Iowa.
The program helps departments purchase firefighting equipment, improve facilities and implement health and wellness programs.
Atleast 55 percent of the program’s funding goes to fire departments that utilize volunteer firefighters.
