SL Council Votes Unanimously To Turn Street Lights Back On

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake City Council Tuesday voted unanimously to turn on most of the 200 or so street lights that were turned off several years ago in a cost-cutting move.

Public Works Director Dwight Dohlman told the council not having the lights on saved the city about $6,000 a year in electricity and another $12,000 by not having to replace bulbs and ballasts. In other business, the council voted unanimously to spend $15,000 for new Christmas decorations on light poles on Hill Avenue in the downtown area. It was the concensus of the council to look at purchasing new decorations for poles along Lake Street in the downtown area if finances allow.
