(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday evening voted to proceed with a structural analysis of the building housing the city’s Police Department.
The council voted 3-1 to approve a proposal from the Short Elliott Hendrickson engineering firm to conduct the study for $5,550. Councilman Jerry Harbst cast the lone no vote. Councilman Clyde Ihrke was absent.
City officials say the outcome of the study will help determine whether or not remodeling the police station would be cost effective, compared to building a new one.
In addition to structural integrity, the study will also include mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in the building.
In other business, the council accepted the low bid of $8,370 from Long Branch Tree Care Company to trim and remove some trees and brush from Memorial Park; they discussed approaching various groups and businesses for donations for playground equipment at Memorial Park; decided to proceed with public information forums on the city hall project; and they approved a revised RISE Grant application through the Iowa D.O.T for a road project in the city’s new East Lake Industrial Park area. D.O.T commissioners will consider the application at their November meeting.
