(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council is hoping to clear the air over the use of outdoor woodburning boilers and whether or not they should be regulated or banned altogether.
A neighbor who lives near a home that has one of the devices in the Southern Glenn area was at Tuesday’s city council meeting requesting the city do something, saying the smoke is getting in their house and is causing health issues for her and her husband.
Public Works and Zoning Administrator Dwight Dohlman said the council has three options on how to deal with the matter, but recommended one in particular…(click here for comment.)

The council took no action on the issue Tuesday. Councilman Kevin Bice wants to hear from a representative of a company that manufactures the devices before deciding whether they should be banned altogether…(click here for comment.)
The owner of the device added that if the council is going to ban or regulate woodburning stoves and boilers due to health concerns, that it should do the same with fireplaces.
City officials say there’s atleast one more outdoor woodburning boiler in the city that they know of.
