SL Council Scraps Water Main Bid

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday rejected a bid on a water main project that came in significantly higher than the engineer’s estimate.

The lone bid of $556,586 was submitted by a Lake Crystal, Minnesota contractor. It came about 22 percent over the engineer’s estimate of $454,000.

The project was to include the replacement of water main along a stretch of 28th Street from Erie Avenue east and along Denver Avenue from 28th Street to 23rd Street. Part of the project was to be completed yet this fall.

The council agreed to an engineer’s recommendation to re-bid the project in January, with the hopes it may generate more interest among contractors.
