(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday reviewed a proposed master plan for Memorial Park presented by a representative of the RDG design and planning firm.
The process to come up with a plan for improvements to the park on the city’s east side started about two years ago. Information from a survey of park users at that time was forwarded to RDG to come up with a plan.
The proposed plan presented at Tuesday’s council meeting calls for the park to be divided into two areas with a “neighborhood” themed park on the north and a “community” themed park in the central and southern portions of the park.
The proposed plan includes a small amphitheatre, a day lodge with restrooms, picnic shelter, walking and biking trails, a playground, paved parking, and other amenities including a “splash pad”.
Mike Bell, a representative of RDG that presented the proposed master plan Tuesday, told the council the revamped Memorial Park would also serve as an important entry portal for the city’s east side.
A cost estimate wasn’t mentioned during Tuesday’s presentation.
The council took no action on the matter. The proposed plans will come up for further review and revision by the city’s Parks Development and the council.
