(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council has opted to stay with an in-town firm for recycling services.
The city council Tuesday voted against a staff recommendation to switch to an out-of-town company.
The city had received bids from two firms: H & H Recycling of Spirit Lake and Complete Recovery of Spencer. H & H was the lowest bidder at $7,880 per month with Complete Recovery’s bid coming in at $7,917 per month.
While Complete Recovery’s bid was the highest of the two, city staff said there were some provisions in the company’s proposal that would result in a savings to the city over the long-term.
But several council members were concerned over the possibility of H & H going out of business if the city was to switch firms, and the impact that would have on the local economy. The council then voted unanimously to accept the low bid from H & H Recycling.
