SL Council Hears Rezoning Request For Apartment Complex

November 22, 2014

A developer told the council he plans to build a 36-unit apartment complex on the site. Three buildings with 12 units each are planned for the site.

In other business, the council set August 27th as the date for a public hearing on a low impact development and watershed improvement project for the Center Lake Area. The engineer on the project, Brad Beck of Beck Engineering, told the council the Cleanwater Alliance, which is playing a major role in the project, has things pretty much ready to go…(click here for comment.) “They’ve been working with property owners to get agreements to allow these practices on their property, and maintenance agreements. We feel we’re at a point to where we’re ready to get bids. We have commitments from the hospital, the Eye Care Center, Keelson Harbor and Immanuel Lutheran Church. The hospital already has some work in progress through their contractor for the building project.”

A large portion of the funding for the project is coming through grants that have been awarded to the Cleanwater Alliance. The project is intended to improve the water quality of Center Lake by slowing down and filtering storm water runoff before it enters the lake.

On another note, last (Tues.) evening’s meeting was a historic one as it was the last city council meeting to be held in the old city hall as city offices will be temporarily relocating for construction of the new city hall. We’ll have details on that in upcoming newscasts.
