(Spirit Lake)—More exciting projects lie on the horizon for the Dickinson County recreational trail system. That was the message Yvonne Taylor of the Dickinson County Trails board had earlier this week for the Spirit Lake city council. Taylor, who represents the city on the board, told the council several upcoming projects will be focused on the city…(click here for comment.) “We are continuing to collaborate with the Pioneer Beach Road project and don’t have anything definitive. I just want to let you know we’re still at the table having discussions about that and we’re all in to help out, you know, hopefully getting a trail to go around that way. We have projects coming up with the railroad, quite a few, that have a high priority with our trails organization. In January we did our annual meeting where we decide where we’re going to put our energy for the next month, year, five years, 20 years, and of course railroad is a big priority so the city of Spirit Lake is a big part of that.”
Taylor says another priority is getting a trail established around East Lake Okoboji…(click here for comment.) “We have lots of concepts on the table right now, none that are definitive at this point, but obviously that will also affect the city of Spirit Lake because the most direct connection being that we would get connected to the bridge and the boat ramp area in Spirit Lake and then get Bedell Park involved and try to get that all connected.”
Taylor says completing the route around West Lake Okoboji also remains a high priority, along with maintaining the existing trails in the system.
