November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday approved the first reading and waived the second reading of a proposed ordinance that establishes new precinct boundaries in the city.

The city is required, just like the county and school districts, to redraw election boundaries every 10 years based on the latest census figures.

Cities are required to re-draw precinct boundaries whenever a certain precinct exceeds 3,500 in population. The city’s south precinct has exceeded that figure.

A final reading and possible adoption is scheduled for the council’s next regular meeting August 23rd.
