(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday approved an engineering agreement for the 19th Street reconstruction project with Kuehl and Payer of Storm Lake.
The same company was hired in 2004 when the same project was first proposed, but was postponed due to the courthouse project and other factors.
Bob Payer of Kuehl and Payer told the council Tuesday some of the engineering work has already been done and will be deducted from the new agreement, which is not to exceed 11,170-dollars.
A February bidletting is tentatively scheduled with construction during the 2009 construction season.
In other business, the council tabled action on a request for 75-thousand dollars for the 2010 fiscal year from the Lakes Area Community Land Trust.
Spokesman Jim Golden told the council it was crucial the funding be approved now so it can leverage it in some upcoming grant applications.
Several council members, including Clyde Ihrke, Kevin Bice and Steve Balm expressed concern over a lack of action by the trust on some land near 24th Street and Hill Avenue.
Golden told the council liens against that property are making it difficult if not impossible to get financing for the project.
The matter was referred to the city’s Administrative Committee to try to come up with a solution.
Council members said they want that issue resolved before taking action on the funding request, which they’ll reconsider at their December 9th meeting.
