SL Council Adopts Water And Sewer Rate Increases; Holds Second Consideration Of Rezoning Request

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday approved the final reading of an ordinance increasing water and sewer fees by roughly four percent.

In other business, the council approved the second reading of a proposal to rezone property at 1412 Hill Avenue from residential to commercial. Plans call for a flower shop to open in a house on that property that’s currently vacant. A neighbor who lives adjacent to the property spoke out in opposition to the proposed rezoning, citing concern over traffic on 15th Street…(click here for comment.)  “Here a few weeks ago when she had flowers delivered the truck had to park on the wrong side of the street which makes an issue for the people coming off of Hill Avenue having to face the oncoming traffic on 15th. So like I said, we’re already a busy street because of the industry, the day care and the funeral home in our area and also multiple apartments.”

The matter will come back to the council for a third reading and possible adoption at its next regular meeting.
