(Spirit Lake)– A newly revised ordinance regulating taxi cab services is going on the books in Spirit Lake.
The city council Tuesday held a third reading and voted to adopt the changes.
They include revising the exemption from having a license; increases the amount of liability insurance that’s required; it changes the licensing period; requires each driver to be registered with the city; and each taxi is required to have a visible tag in it.
In other business the Spirit Lake city council approved an engineering services agreement for a detention pond and some low impact development studies to help address a drainage problem in the Center Lake area; they approved a Technology Services agreement with the county with the provision it be reviewed after six months; and they deferred action on a request to donate money to the Spirit Lake Protective Association for its annual fireworks display. The matter will be brought back for consideration during budget time.
The council also directed City Administrator Mark Stevens to proceed in putting together a proposal for a housing assessment in the city; and they went into closed session to discuss a possible land aquisition, but no action was taken.
