SL Budget For Upcoming Fiscal Year Reflects No Change In Levy

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Some good news for taxpayers in the city of Spirit Lake.

The city council is proposing a budget for the upcoming fiscal year that reflects no change in the tax levy from the current fiscal year.

City Administrator Mark Stevens described the budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year as “a maintenance budget”. He says it includes funding to repair some infrastructure, including a drainage project in the Center Lake area, re-surfacing a portion of Zenith Avenue near the hospital, upsizing a water main on the southeast side of the city, and relining some sanitary sewers.

Stevens says they were able to maintain the current levy by using fund balances and shifting the levy internally.

The council has set March 8th at 5:30 p.m. as the date and time for a public hearing on the proposed budget.
