Site Assessment Completed On Abbie Gardner Cabin

August 12, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– A group looking to restore one of the lake’s area’s most valuable historic attractions is moving ahead with its plans. The Friends of the Abbie Gardner Sharp cabin, operates under the auspices of the Spirit of Okoboji group. A spokesperson for that organization, Angie Cook, gave an update at Wednesday’s Arnolds Park City Council meeting. She says the Friends group has purchased a lot adjacent to the cabin…

“We’re hoping to put up possibly a new museum, an interpretive center. We don’t know what it all looks like but we are in the planning stages of that right now so that’s exciting.”

Cook added they met recently with state officials who conducted a site assessment…

“The cabin needs to have some new roofing and the cementing in between the logs and those kinds of things, so we’re hoping to get that moving yet this fall before winter comes. So know that there might be some more activity yet this fall.”

The cabin site saw a hub bub of activity through the summer with an archeaological dig that was taking place.
