April 03, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Hospers)– A collision Saturday at the intersection of Highway 60 and a county road in Hospers sent multiple people to the hospital.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Logan Kollbaum of Anthon was driving a 2010 Freightliner semi northbound on Highway 60 and 65-year-old Judith McCord of Spencer was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Express van westbound on the county road. Deputies say McCord pulled into the intersection and the two collided.

McCord and a passenger in her vehicle, 64-year-old Byron Smith, Sr. of Spencer were taken by ambulance to an Orange City hospital. Kollbaum and a passenger in the semi he was driving, 23-year-old Carlos Inigo Ransom of Sioux City, were taken by private vehicle to the Sheldon hospital.

$20,000 in damage was estimated to the semi driven by Kollbaum; the van driven by McCord sustained an estimated $8,000 in damage.

McCord was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.
