(Wahpeton)– A drug charge has been filed against a Sioux City man following an incident Monday evening on West Lake Okoboji.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Michael Vlaanderen was arrested after a DNR Lake Patrol officer saw him smoking what’s alleged to be marijuana while kayaking on West Lake Okoboji. Vlaanderen reportedly threw the material into the water after being discovered by the officer. Lake Patrol officers recovered the material and escorted Vlaanderen to shore where he was arrested by a Sheriff’s Deputy.
Vlaanderen was booked into the Dickinson county jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance…a serious misdemeanor. Bond was set at $1,000.
Authorities say the incident took place around 10:00 p.m. Monday.
