Single Vehicle Crash Results Sends Three To Hospital

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)—A single vehicle crash shortly after 2:30 a.m. this (Tues.) morning in northwestern Emmet county sent three people to the hospital.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Danielle Rizor of Ringsted was driving a 2004 Volkswagon Jetta westbound in the 3400 block of 130th Street just east of the Emmet/Dickinson county line, or about three and-a-half miles northwest of Estherville. Deputies say Rizor told them she swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of the vehicle, which traveled into the north ditch and vaulted a field approach before coming to rest.

Rizor and two passengers, 15-year-old Megan Triggs of Estherville and 22-year-old Steven Hatland of Dolliver were all transported to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. Authorities say Hatland had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Estherville Fire Department using “Jaws Of Life” equipment.

Deputies say they believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Estherville Police Department, Estherville Ambulance Service and paramedics and the Estherville Fire Department.
