(Spencer)– A collision involving a Jeep Wrangler and a tree resulted in minor injuries and sent a Spencer man to jail.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it received a 911 call shortly before 6:00 p.m. Friday of a jeep that had driven through a T-intersection at M38 and 360th Street. The vehicle then struck a road sign on the west side of the intersection before continuing south on County Road M38. It then went into the ditch and struck a tree.
Deputies identified the driver as 22-year-old Jacob Schatzberg of Spencer. Upon investigating authorities determined Schatzberg had allegedly been driving under the influence. He was arrested and booked into the Clay county jail on charges of operating while intoxicated…first offense; failure to maintain control and striking fixtures on a highway.
Schatzberg was being held without bond.
Schatzberg sustained minor cuts but wasn’t taken to a hospital.
Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the vehicle he was driving.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Royal Fire and Rescue and the Spencer ambulance.
Authorities say the incident remains under investigation.
