Sibley Collision Results In Minor Injuries

November 22, 2014

(Sibley)– A two-vehicle collision Monday in Sibley resulted in minor injuries to two people.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 75-year-old Elmer VanBeest of Sibley was westbound on 180th Street and 75-year-old Lorraine Fettes of Ashton was northbound on Northwest Boulevard and was approaching the intersection with 180th Street. Deputies say Fettes didn’t realize the road was a dead-end and slid through the intersection, colliding with the vehicle driven by VanBeest.

VanBeest was taken to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley with non-incapacitating injuries. Fettes and a passenger, 22-year-old Kayla Doorenbos of Sheldon, refused treatment on the scene. They were taken by private vehicle to the Osceola Community Hospital to be checked over.

$2,000 in damage was estimated to a 1992 Chevrolet pickup driven by VanBeest and to a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Fettes.

Fettes was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway.

The crash was reported to authorities around 1:47 p.m.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Sibley Fire and Rescue and the Sibley ambulance.
