Shoreline Collapses Reported

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– Severe shoreline erosion and collapses of shoreline continue to be reported around some of the Iowa Great Lakes.

DNR officials say they received a report Friday on a boat house that went into East Lake Okoboji.

Bank collapses have also been reported near Pillsbury Point and just north of The Inn on West Lake Okoboji.

DNR officials attribute most of the collapses that have occurred so far not to high waves, but to saturated ground that they say simply slid into the lake…similar to a landslide.
