(Jackson, Mn.)—A Sheldon woman has died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash Saturday evening in Jackson county that left her husband seriously injured.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Brian Engelkes of Sheldon was westbound on County Road four near 480th Avenue, about two miles north of the Iowa/Minnesota border, when he lost control of a 2011 Harley Davidson. The motorcycle went into the north ditch and struck a driveway embankment.
Engelkes and a passenger, his 39-year-old wife Michelle, were both ejected from the motorcycle. Authorities say neither was wearing a helmet.
They were both transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake and were transferred by air to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Michelle Engelkes died of her injuries yesterday (Mon.). Brian Engelkes was listed in critical condition as of this morning.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by Lakefield Fire and Ambulance and the Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance and paramedics.
Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
They were called to the scene around 5:47 p.m. Saturday.
