Sheldon Man Sentenced On Federal Firearms Charge

September 22, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)– A Sheldon man was sentenced Wednesday to two years in federal prison on a firearms charge.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 40-year-old Clinton Kreykes pled guilty in March of last year to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Evidence presented at plea and sentencing hearings showed that Kreykes had previously been convicted on a burglary charge and was a methamphetamine user, prohibiting him from possessing a firearm. A compliance check done as part of probation conditions on September 16th of last year resulted in a probation officer finding drug paraphernalia. Kreykes was then arrested. A search warrant was then issued and executed on the camper resulting in officers finding prescription pills, a baggy with methamphetamine in it, a shotgun, shotgun shells and other items related to drug use.

The case was investigated by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
