(Hospers)– A Sheldon man was arrested earlier this week on charges related to the theft of a vehicle February 29th in Hospers.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 42-year-old Michael Monaghan is accused of driving away with a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been parked in a convenience store parking lot. Monaghan was later stopped and arrested by the Iowa State Patrol in O’Brien county for driving with a barred driver’s license. Authorities say he was driving the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the time of the arrest.

Monaghan is also accused of stealing about $30 in cash and other items from the vehicle. In addition, authorities say methamphetamine was found in the vehicle when it was recovered by the owner.

Monaghan was charged with burglary, operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, possession of a controlled substance and theft.
