Sheldon House Fire Said To Be Caused By Electrical Issue

May 13, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Sheldon)– Officials say a house fire in Sheldon Thursday was caused by an electrical issue.

Firefighters were called a little before 2:30 pm to a residence at the corner of Washington Avenue and 10th Street after getting a report of a fire in a bedroom in the basement. A person who was sleeping was awakened by fire alarms and evacuated. That person was taken to the hospital to be checked out as a precaution.

Upon arriving firefighters found smoke coming from the basement and extinguished the fire.

Fire Chief Brad Hindt says the likely cause was some downed power lines in the neighborhood that caused a transformer to blow, resulting in a power surge.
