Sheldon Fire Dept. Responds After Multiple People Get Stuck In Elevator

August 20, 2025

(Sheldon)– Authorities in Sheldon say multiple college-age girls were rescued Monday evening after getting stuck in an elevator.

Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt says they were called to Osceola Hall on the campus of Northwest Iowa Community College where 13 people were reported stuck in the elevator. Hindt says it’s believed they were trying to see how many people they could fit in the elevator when it shut down and trapped them inside.

Hindt says they determined that the elevator car was not between floors. He says they obtained the elevator key and forced the doors open, and all the victims were able to escape. No injuries were reported.
