(Spirit Lake)-It’s the Shake the Lakes Competition in Spirit Lake this weekend. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Spirit Lake Music Boosters will host the Shake the Lakes Show and Jazz Choir Competition Friday and Saturday at The Sami Bedell Center for The Performing Arts.
Choir Director Luke Miller says dozens of choirs will be competing. “This year is a big year. We’ve got 35 different schools that are coming, 50 different ensembles from 4 different states. So, we’ve really got a huge following coming to Shake the Lakes to participate this year. Friday is our Vocal Jazz Competition Day, and that’s gonna start at 11 a.m. and go all the way until about 10:30 p.m. There are 27 different vocal jazz groups from the smallest schools all the way up to the 4A schools.”
He says the Show Choir Competition will start early on Saturday. “Saturday we have our Show Choir Competition and that starts at 8 a.m. with the 5 different middle school show choirs, and then the competition continues through the day until approximately 6 o’clock, and then at 6 o’clock we have our awards, and the top 6 point scorers of the day will go on to compete in our finals event on Saturday night to decide who the Grand Champion is.”
The public is encouraged attend, with daily admission $15 for adults and $5 for students.
