(Sanborn)– Severe thunderstorms brought large hail and damaging wind to some areas of northwest Iowa between about 12:30 and 3:00 a.m. this (Tues.) morning.
Particularly hard hit was an area in and around Sanborn in O’Brien county. Wind estimated in excess of 70 mph resulted in significant tree damage and brought down numerous power lines. Power wasn’t restored to most of Sanborn until shortly before 7:00 a.m. this (Tues.) morning.
Elsewhere, high wind destroyed two grain bins about eight miles west of Royal.
Large hail pummeled parts of the region as well. Hail estimated at 1.5 inches in diameter fell on Boyden in Sioux county; hail estimated at 1 3/4″ diameter pummeled Sheldon; and hail estimated at one inch in diameter fell in Ashton.
Considerable crop damage is being reported in some areas.
