Several NW Iowa School Districts Awarded Funds For Summer Meal Sites For Children

(Des Moines)– Several northwest Iowa school districts will be getting a share of $900,000 awarded to 38 school districts throughout the state by the Iowa Department of Education to expand summer meal sites for children.

Estherville-Lincoln Central will receive funds to establish sites at Thoreson Park and the bathhouse at the former city pool site; the South O’Brien Community School District will set up a site at the Elementary School in Primghar; and the Spencer Community School District was awarded funding for a summer meal site at the high school.

The Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Option are funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The summer sites offer meals for children and teens age 18 and under at no cost to families.
