(Undated)– Several northwest Iowa communities have been awarded grants to plant trees. The funding is through Alliant Energy’s “One Million Trees” initiative and “Trees Forever”.

Locally, Arnolds Park was awarded $5,000 to plant trees in city parks and other city-owned land.

Other communities in the region awarded funding include Alta which will receive $4,900; Ashton and Laurens will each receive $2,500; Rolfe, $3,285; and Sibley, which is getting $5,000.

Communities are eligible to apply for grants up to $5,000 to plant new trees. Since 1990, Trees Forever and Alliant Energy have awarded over $7.85 million and planted more than 1.1 million trees through the program.
