Sen. Chuck Grassley Praises Ruling On Nursing Home Ownership Disclosure Requirement

November 17, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Washington, D.C.)– Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is praising the Biden-Harris Administration’s actions this week requiring nursing homes to disclose their ownership. It comes after over fifteen years of effort, including a law passed in 2010…

“Increased nursing home transparency. That means that families choosing a facility for their loved ones, will have better information to guide their decision. And management and ownership of a nursing home is an important part of that.”

He says the ruling will also make it easier for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to catch instances of fraud waste and abuse…

“This rule will then shed sunlight on who’s running the show at our nation’s more than 15,000 nursing homes, and we have about 400 of those nursing homes in Iowa.”

CMS issued the final ruling this week, part of which requires nursing homes taking money from Medicare or Medicaid to disclose entities that exercise financial control over the facility, such as who manages the finances. The ruling is in response to provisions included in the Affordable Care Act in 2010.
