Semi Collision Sends One Person To Hospital

November 22, 2014

(Sanborn)– A collision of two semis on Highway 18 in Sanborn Monday sent one person to the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says the semis, driven by 34-year-old Michael Thomas of Cleveland, Ohio, and 46-year-old Mark Recher of Harris, were both westbound. Troopers say Recher, who was aheld of Thomas, had slowed to turn onto a sidestreet. Thomas attempted to slow down but was unable to do so due to an icy patch near the intersection. The semi Thomas was driving slid sideways and collided with the one driven by Recher. It came to rest about 100 feet west of the crash site.

Recher was taken by private vehicle to the Sheldon hospital to be checked over for possible injuries. No injuries were reported to Thomas.

Two thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the semi driven by Thomas; damage to the one driven by Recher was estimated at a thousand dollars.

The collision took place around 10:30 a.m.

Troopers say no charges were filed due to the unexpected patch of ice at the intersection.
