Semi Collides With Bridge, Jackknifes; Driver Escapes Injury

November 22, 2014

(Cylinder)– Authorities say there were no injuries, but a considerable amount of property damage when a semi pulling a grain trailer collided with a bridge, jackknifed and went into the ditch, with the trailer blocking part of the road.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. Sunday about four miles east of Cylinder on Highway 18 in Palo Alto county.

The Sheriff’s Office says the driver, Eric Quisling of Corwith, was westbound when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

The truck and trailer, owned by Schulz Trucking of West Bend, sustained an estimated 50-thousand dollars in damage; damage to the bridge and road was put at roughly 12-thousand dollars.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Cylinder Fire Department and the Iowa State Patrol.
