(Okoboji)– Authorities are resuming their search this (Monday) morning for a person who presumably drowned on West Lake Okoboji in an incident late Sunday afternoon.
Search and rescue crews were called around 5:00 p.m. Sunday to Colcords Point, in the Hayward’s Bay area on the east side of West Lake Okoboji. A person who had been on a boat or kayak was reported missing.
Crews with the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Underwater Search and Rescue and the Spirit Lake Fire Department and its water rescue unit combed both the water and the adjoining shoreline looking for the 35-year-old victim, who’s name has not been released. The underwater search continued until dusk Sunday, when it was suspended for the night. The shoreline operations continued.
The search is now being based out of the Pike’s Point area, which is closed to the public until further notice. Crews returned to that area around sunrise.
The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Underwater Search and Rescue team is being assisted by the Spirit Lake Fire Department, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Dickinson County Emergency Management.
