“Any young lady who’s sixteen to twenty one years of age may apply. Who does most of their activities in Clay County? So you do not need to live in Clay County. But if most of your activities take place in Clay County, you’re eligible. They do need to be involved with one service organization such as Four-h, FFA, Girl Scouts or church Group, which most outgoing young ladies in our area are just naturally involved in those or anyway. So it’s very inclusive and we just want to get a really great ambassador for the Clay County Fair selected on May third.”
The 2026 Clay County Fair Queen will receive numerous prizes from local businesses including a $1500 scholarship sponsored by Community State Bank. Brockshus says that is not all they will receive…
“You know, it just helps young people grow and develop their personal interpersonal skills. The individual who is selected to be our Queen will represent the Clay County Fair at the State Fair in August, where they will name the Iowa State Fair Queen. So they just get to meet a lot of people, a lot of other motivated young gals and interact with those. And some of those friendships they develop there last a lifetime. So we’re just excited for the opportunity that we can have to get somebody from Clay County and representing the Clay County Fair to the Iowa State Fair”
Besides representing Clay County at the State Fair, Brockshus talks about other duties of the Clay County Fair Queen…
“So this individual will also serve as an ambassador of the Clay County Fair and be involved in a lot of local parades, and we may grow their experience by doing some social media posts and help them interact with people. I know it’s the gals who’ve been selected in the past, have done a really great job and really represented us well, and I’m sure the next year’s selection will do just the same.”
