Scouting For Food Is This Coming Saturday, April 18th

April 13, 2026

(Milford)– Boy Scouts throughout the Iowa Great Lakes are once again holding their annual food drive campaign. Jason Simpson of the Milford Boy Scouts says the annual Scouting For Food is this Saturday…

“Locally here in Dickinson county, both the Milford scout troop and the Spirit Lake scout troop are both doing the Scouting For Food which is coming up April 18th, on Saturday. What they do is Spirit Lake is going to be set up at the Hy-Vee grocery store and the Fareway grocery story between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm collecting items either if you’re coming or going from the store, and they’ll take your donations there. The Milford scout troop, we will be picking up the donations, going around town, starting at 9:00 am on Saturday, April 18th. We just ask that you put your items in a sturdy bag or box and place it on your front door step where it can be seen from the street, and we’ll take care of it from there.”

Simpson says the items that are collected stay locally…

“We take our collected items, both troops take collected items to the Upper Des Moines Food Pantry that’s located up here in Spirit Lake. Their food pantry hands out a lot of food every week and we have to keep the shelves full, so us doing the campaign for Scouting for Food really helps them out.”

Simpson adds you can donate now if you want to, with a display set up at Sunshine Foods in Milford…

“In Milford at Sunshine Foods, currently there is a cart inside the front door and there’s a sign on it and if you want to donate some items that way you can leave some stuff in the cart and then the scout troop will be over to Sunshine on Saturday, April 18th around 9:30 to pick those items up and we’ll add those to our collected items from driving around and then we’ll take them to the food pantry.”

Simpson says the longstanding Scouting for Food project helps emphasize the importance to youth of giving back to the community and helping the less fortunate.
