(Des Moines)– Iowa’s Small Business Development Centers turned in some impressive numbers for the fiscal year ended September 30th, 2010.
According to the statistics, the centers created or saved 1,855 jobs in the state. 155 new business start-ups were generated. The SBDCs also counseled some 2,800 entrepreneurs.
As a result of SBDC counseling with small businesses, the firms saw an increase of more than $51.3 million in client sales statewide, resulting in an increase of new sales and income tax revenue of nearly $3 million.
Locally, the Northwest Iowa Small Business Development Center is hosted by Iowa Lakes Community College. The Director is Kelly McCarty of Spencer. The center covers a 10-county area of northwest Iowa. Services are free, confidential and customized.
The Small Business Development Centers are funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
