Saturday’s Storm Was Likely A Contributing Factor In Two Clay County Accidents

August 29, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– Authorities in Clay county say Saturday’s storm was likely a contributing factor in a couple of accidents.

The Sheriff’s Office says one of those involved a motorcycle being driven by 45-year-old Alberto Leon of Sibley. Deputies say Leon was driving a 2017 Indiant Motorcycle westbound in the 1300 mile of Highway 18 when he lost control due to high wind and heavy rain. Authorities say Leon was thrown from the motorcycle as it went into a ditch and rolled about two times. Leon sustained minor injuries but apparently didn’t seek immediate treatment. Damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $3,500.

The other was a two-vehicle collision involving a 2022 Toyota Rav4 driven by 30-year-old Beth Mosbach of Spirit Lake and a 2016 Buick Enclave driven by 85-year-old Sandra Olberding of Spencer. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says Olberding was southbound on 200th Avenue and Mosbach was northbound. Authorities say the collision took place when Olberding’s vehicle crossed the center line. No injuries were reported but both vehicles were totaled. Deputies say visibility at the time was near zero due to high wind and heavy rainfall.
