(Sanborn)— A Sanborn man wanted on drug charges has been taken into custody.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 29-year-old Hunter Koontz of Sanborn is accused of selling drugs to informants on multiple occasions earlier this year. He was arrested on a warrant on Tuesday.
Deputies say the drug was methamphetamine, and was often sold near schools, parks, and the swimming pool in Sanborn.
Koontz faces charges including four counts of drug trafficking, a class B felony, and three counts of drug tax stamp violations. If convicted of a class B felony Koontz could face up to 25 years in prison on each count. Plus, the tax stamp violations are class D felonies and could each carry a penalty of five years in prison if he’s convicted.
He faces a preliminary hearing on Friday, September 19th.
At last report, Koontz remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar in lieu of a $75,000 cash or surety bond.
