Sanborn Bank Robbery Suspect Pleads Guilty To Federal Charge

September 05, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)– A Sanborn man has pleaded guilty in federal court following the robbery of a bank in Sanborn earlier this year. 40-year-old Del Martinnez Evans Jr. is accused of robbing the Sanborn Savings Bank back on Jan. 22. He originally faced state charges of second-degree robbery and second-degree theft, which he pleaded not guilty to in February. Those charges were dismissed after federal charges of robbery by force or violence were filed against Evans.

He faces up to 20 years in prison. A sentencing date hasn’t been set.

A criminal complaint says Evans entered the bank and handed a teller a note saying this was a robbery. The complaint says no weapons were displayed or referenced during this robbery, but Evans got away with cash.

He was arrested at his home in Sanborn shortly after the robbery.
