Rural Roads Remain In Poor Condition; Some Drift Back Shut

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Traveling on secondary roads remains a challenge at best, in some cases.

Dickinson County Engineer Dan Eckert tells KUOO news road crews spent the weekend opening up secondary and gravel roads. But he says they lost ground Sunday night and again this (Monday) morning with the stronger wind, which is causing some roads in rural areas to become plugged again. Eckert says it will be a problem everytime the wind comes up until there’s a crust on the snow.

While he’s seen drifts up to six feet high in places, Eckert says it could have been much worse if we would have received the 40 mph plus wind that they received to the west of us.

Eckert says he’s getting a lot of calls from people wondering when certain roads will be open. He urges everyone to be patient, adding crews are doing what they can to keep up.
