(Spirit Lake)– A rural Harris man accused of stealing copper from a farm site in Dickinson county faces several charges.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 38-year-old Gerald Caviness of rural Harris was arrested Wednesday on charges of theft in the second and third degrees and failure to register as a sex offender.
Caviness made an initial appearance this (Thurs.) morning in Dickinson County District Court. His bond was set at nine thousand dollars.
Theft in the second degree is a class “D” felony for property that is in excess of a thousand dollars in value but less than 10-thousand.
Theft in the third degree is an aggravated misdemeanor for property that’s valued in excess of 500-dollars and less than a thousand dollars.
Failure to register as a sex offender is also an aggravated misdemeanor.
Authorities say their investigation continues.
They encourage the public to report any suspicious activity at abandoned farm sites to their local law enforcement agency.
