Rollover West Of Terril Sends Two People To LRH

November 22, 2014

(Terril)—A single-vehicle rollover Saturday west of Terril sent two people to the hospital.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 52-year-old Phoebe Hersom of Ruthven was southbound in the 2500 block of 270th Avenue west of Terril when she fell asleep at the wheel, causing her to lose control of a 2001 Ford Expedition. The vehicle went off the road into the left ditch, came back onto the roadway, then went into the right ditch. Authorities say Hersom attempted to get the vehicle back on the roadway again, but rolled it. The vehicle came to rest on its top.

Hersom and a passenger, four-month-old Jennifer Hersom, were freed from the vehicle by using extrication equipment. Both were transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. Phoebe Hersom was treated for non-incapacitating injuries while possible injuries were reported to Jennifer Hersom.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Milford Police Department, the Terril ambulance, Terril Fire Department, the Lakes Area Extrication Unit and the Spirit Lake ambulance.

The crash took place shortly after 5:30 p.m.
