(Orleans)– A major road project continues on the southwest side of Big Spirit Lake. The work on 140th Street between Peoria Avenue, or St. Margaret’s Cemetery, and the pump house, or Hill Avenue, has been ongoing throughout the summer. Orleans Mayor Bill Maas says weather permitting, the intersection at the cemetery should hopefully once again be open to traffic in another couple of weeks or so…
Maas says they’re still hopeful the rest of 140th Street from the cemetery east to the pump house, will still be completed yet by mid-November
Maas says in a worse case scenario of the road not getting done before the snow flies is that a temporary surface would be put down so it could be re-opened through the winter. The project would then resume when conditions allow in the spring.
The delays have been attributed largely to a number of water service lines and a sanitary sewer main in that area that had to be lowered after it was discovered they were much more shallow than first thought.
